It doesn't always feel like a single voice or a single vote can make any difference in changing the things that are currently broken in this country. However, apathy and low voter turnout are contributing to the problems we face. By not voting we send the message that we don't care and that there are no real consequences when politicians behave badly or do things that hurt the people and communities they have sworn to represent. The only way to get politicians to do the things you want them to do is by holding them accountable and letting them know that you're paying attention, and the best way to send that message is at the voting booth. Ultimately, public servants must answer to their constituents, and if you don't like what they're doing then you replace them with someone else. The direction or redirection of a country can stem from the results of a single election, and a single election can hinge on a small number of votes. The people in power know this which is why they are working so hard to keep the vote away from so many people. The right to vote is the right of every citizen. Don't let them silence or ignore you. Let them know you're paying attention.
