from Represented, released September 1, 2020
Known best for hauntingly poignant lyricism and masterful vocal play, Kathryn O'Shea's heart-wrenching stories captivate listeners in catharsis. But despite a musical upbringing and an effortless knack for songwriting, O’Shea only played her original music to an audience for the first time in late 2018, when she opened for LA-based singer-songwriter Terra Naomi at 7 Stages Theatre in Atlanta. Upon the release of her debut single, music blog Immersive Atlanta wrote, "The moment Kathryn O’Shea’s enormous voice slips into the jaunty bustle of ‘Snow,’ you’ll surely wonder what record label she’s gunning for.”

Shortly after, she moved back to Asheville and quickly began carving out her place in the vibrant local music scene there. O’Shea competed in the 11th annual Brown Bag Songwriting Competition at Asheville Music Hall, taking 2nd place overall. This garnered significant local attention and resulted in an opportunity to play her first hometown show at Isis Music Hall’s Lounge, opening for Alexa Rose to a sold out room. Since then, she has taken the stage at Asheville cornerstone venues ranging from The Grey Eagle to Diana Wortham Theatre and has been featured by Sofar Sounds, WPVM Radio, WNC Original Music Podcast, and more.

With the release of her debut full-length studio album, January 9th, O’Shea celebrates triumph in the face of trauma, a message we all need in this new era of coronavirus. The album, released on 4/10/20 was produced (including recording, mixing, and mastering) by Michael O'Shea, a talented engineer who just happens to be her brother. She will also be launching a Patreon, in an effort to continue to find rich, accessible, socially distanced connection with her audience.
